Overview of the Surface Facility Operations
Course will cover the basic design and operation of production surface equipment involved in the production, storage, and sale of crude oil and natural gas. Includes a demonstration of equipment functions for pumping units, wellheads, heater treaters/separators, tanks and facility pumps, as-well-as operational best practices.

1. Demonstrate detailed understanding of common production equipment and parts
2. Identify internal mechanisms of common well site surface equipment
3. Identify common equipment problems and associated solutions
4. Identify common equipment problems and associated solutions
5. Trace fluid flows and processes from wellhead to sales lines or tanks

Pumping Units and Chemical Pumps
Course will cover the routine maintenance and operation of pumping units, including lubrication, time-adjustment, balancing, and problem troubleshooting. Participants will also learn the basic functions of wellhead chemical pumps and their applications.

Objectives (Participants will be able to:)
1. Install, adjust unit run time, and identify balancing needs of a pumping unit
2. Perform preventive maintenance on pumping units
3. Operate, maintain, and repair chemical pumps
4. Troubleshoot pumping units and chemical pumps

Fluid Flow and Handling
Course will cover the flow and handling of produced fluids and natural gas. Participants will learn to diagnose fluid flow problems from the wellhead to the storage tank/sales line. Participants will also learn how to read pressure guages, clear and repair fluid pathways, set system operating pressures, as well as gauge and measure tank volumes.

3. Gauge vessel fluid levels
4. Redirect fluid pathways
5. Read and interpret pressures
6. Replace and rebuild valves

Tanks and Fluid Measurement
Course will cover the elements of petroleum storage tank design and function, preventive maintenance for storage vessels, primary reasons for tank failure, and the essential components of fluid measurement. Participants will learn how to maintain storage equipment, as well as gauge, measure and analyze petroleum fluid levels in storage vessels.

1. Perform preventive maintenance on storage vessels,
2. Gauge and measure fluid levels in storage vessels
3. Determine oil gravity, temperature, and water content
4. Circulate tank bottoms
5. Prepare oil for sale

Heater Treaters and Separators
Course will cover the essential elements of the systems used to separate crude oil, produced water, and natural gas. A detailed examination of the primary separation systems including; heater treaters, separators, and free water knockouts will be conducted. Participants will learn to set operating pressures, light fire tubes and burners, and diagnose equipment problems.

1. Identify 2 and 3-phase separation systems
2. Identify, measure, and adjust vessel pressures
3. Perform preventive maintenance on Heater Treaters and Separators
4. Light and adjust burners
5. Troubleshoot and diagnose Heater Treater and Separator failure

Circulating Disposal Pumps
Course will cover the use of centrifugal and triplex pumps for petroleum movement and water disposal. Participants will learn how to circulate and treat production tanks, dispose of produced water, as well as repair and maintain pumps and equipment.

Compressors
Course will cover the operation of natural gas compressors and their practical applications in the field. Participants will learn to operate and maintain compressors, as well as troubleshoot and diagnose system problems. Course will emphasize equipment fundamentals, whole gas-gathering system processes, and essential preventive maintenance.

Automation
Course will cover the primary elements of lease automation and monitoring including; pump-off controls, dynamometers, fluid-level analysis, SCADA, RTUs, and MTUs. Participants will learn to implement modern production and lease automation technology, as well as utilize software feedback to troubleshoot and diagnose operational problems.

Objectives (Participants will be able to:)
1. Operate common SCADA systems
2. Use SCADA systems to monitor lease functions.
3. Operate and interpret pump-off control and dynamometer output.
4. Determine down hole liquid levels
